The Ottawa locks are at the heart of the downtown core. They mark the point of connection between the Rideau Canal and the Ottawa River. In the winter, the Rideau Canal freezes over and 7.8 km of the Rideau Canal are managed by the National Capital Commission. It is one of the world's longest skating rinks.
